This past Tuesday was California’s primary election. California has a unique primary system – the “top 2” system. Simply put, the top two voter getters from any party advance to the November election.
As our friend John Myers from the LA Times so aptly pointed out on Twitter – national observers (and some Californians) had it all wrong. California’s primary is not a “jungle” primary and the November election is not a “runoff” – those are very different things. So put any confusion may have to rest, watch this short “Ballot Brief” video from the folks at KCET in Los Angeles, who clearly explain what the Top 2 is all about.
