Is Our Food Hazardous To The Planet?

Enough with blaming agriculture for the world’s environmental woes! According to a new report released by the San Francisco, Calif.-based Pacific Research Institute, the environmental impact of raising crops and livestock is often misconstrued. The report, “Is Your Food Making the Planet Sick?” can be downloaded at www.pacificresearch.org/publications/is-your-food-making-the-planet-sick.

“Modern agriculture has been blamed for a host of environmental problems, including global warming, water pollution, and ecosystem damage,” said the report’s author Amy Kaleita, Ph.D. “While growing crops and raising livestock does have significant environmental impact, in many cases, the situation has been misrepresented or oversimplified, and some of the proposed solutions have been ineffective or more costly than the benefits derived.”

Kaleita added that agricultural production as currently practiced in the United States “is not at odds with a cleaner environment.”

There are several issues that the report refutes.
