How Single-Payer Health Care Would Be A Disastrous Solution for Fighting This Pandemic and Those in the Future
Featuring Sally C. Pipes, PRI President, CEO, and Thomas W. Smith Fellow in Health Care Policy

11 AM Pacific

Single-payer/”Medicare for All” advocates such as Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and House member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) are seizing on the COVID-19 pandemic to push even more aggressively for a complete takeover of our health care system by the federal government.

Join PRI President, CEO, and Thomas W. Smith Fellow in Health Care Policy Sally C. Pipes for a discussion on why “Medicare for All” would be the wrong solution for the U.S. to embark on to combat the coronavirus and other future health crises.

She’ll also discuss bad ideas like a proposed “Buy America” mandate that would hinder the development of a COVID-19 vaccine and introducing price controls on pharmaceuticals.

She will explain why temporary regulatory reforms should be made permanent when the pandemic is over, including:

  • Telehealth
  • Broadening “Scope of Practice” laws that do not allow Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants from doing tests that they are qualified to undertake
  • Removing licensure restrictions that prohibit doctors from practicing in states where they are not licensed
  • Eliminating “Certificate of Need” laws that hamper the building on new hospitals; and
  • Reducing the number of years it takes to become a medical doctor.

These reforms and others highlighted in her new book False Premise, False Promise: The Disastrous Reality of Medicare for All will lead to affordable, accessible, quality care for all patients.

All registrants will receive the Zoom link in advance to watch the conference live.
