CANCELLED: The 2020 Election and Barriers to Economic Growth and Entrepreneurship

February 20, 2020
800 Powell Street, San Francisco, CA, USA

Sorry this event has been cancelled.

Dr. Wayne Winegarden, PRI’s Senior Fellow in Business and Economics and the Director of PRI’s Center for Medical Economics and Innovation, will share challenges and solutions from his new study on entrepreneurship “Entrepreneurship as a Pathway to the American Dream.”

Many observers have credited the ongoing U.S. economic boom to the Trump administration’s efforts to roll back regulations and reform the tax code. Nearly 60 percent of Americans believe they are better off financially today than they were a year ago, the highest since 1999, according to Gallup survey released last week.

Meanwhile, progressives in California and other states are pushing job-killing legislation like California’s Assembly Bill 5, which outlaws, with a few exceptions, freelance and independent contract work. In the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, candidates like Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are calling for tax increases, minimum wage hikes, costly climate change policies, and outlawing “right to work” laws. The International Franchise Association said Senator Warren’s labor reform plan would put 733,000 small businesses out of existence.

Dr. Winegarden will offer his assessment on America’s current economic growth outlook and the ideal policy environment for entrepreneurship and job creation. He will share his insights on the devastating impact big-government policies could have on employment and economic mobility in low-income and rural communities. Dr. Winegarden will also discuss the policy challenges and solutions included in his new study, Entrepreneurship as a Pathway to the American Dream, which focuses on ways to support low-income entrepreneurship.

Complimentary Admission for Members of PRI’s Young Leaders Circle and Sir Antony Fisher Freedom Society and America’s Future Foundation.
